> Man gets himself arrested because he misses ‘delicious’ food at police cell
KOBE — A 25-year-old man who was arrested in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, for allegedly skipping out on a restaurant bill, told police that he had wanted to be arrested again as he missed the ‘‘delicious’’ food at a police detention cell in the city.
Hiroyuki Minematsu, unemployed, told the police that he traveled to Akashi on May 19 after leaving a prison in Nagano Prefecture earlier in the day. He stayed at an Internet cafe overnight and was arrested the following day on suspicion of ordering food and drinks worth 7,450 yen and skipping out on the bill.
Minematsu told the police that when he was arrested in connection with another crime last year, he had been detained at a cell at Akashi Police Station and meals served at the detention facility were delicious, the police said.
In a stroke of bad luck, however, Minematsu did not get to taste the delicious meals again as he was transferred to a different police station in Awaji in the same prefecture because the detention facility at Akashi Police Station was full at the time of his arrest, the police said.
