A PUPIL who went to fill up his water bottle in a primary school last July, was sexually abused by a repairman.

Selvaraju Jayaselvam, 26, was sentenced to 10 years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane on Monday for performing oral sex on the seven-year-old.

The Indian national also tried to get the boy to do the same to him.

The boy cannot be named and neither can details that could lead to his identification be published.

The High Court heard that the repairman had been assigned to check the water coolers in the school on July 1 last year.

Around noon, the boy got permission from the teacher to go to the toilet and the water cooler.

Selvaraju, who was repairing the water cooler, struck up a conversation with the student. He too went into the toilet and asked the boy to help check if the flushing systems were working. There, he performed oral sex on the boy in a cubicle.

That afternoon, the victim told his father. A check of the school’s log book led police to Selvaraju, who was then arrested on July 3.

In sentencing him, Justice Kan Ting Chiu said: ‘You have tricked an innocent and trusting child by asking him to help him with your work.

‘You confined him, ignored his pleas, and performed fellatio on him and attempted to get him to perform fellatio on you.’
