> He raped his 2 daughters and fathered 7 children
LONDON: A British man who raped his two daughters and fathered seven children by them has been jailed for life in a case described by the judge as the worst he had ever seen.
The 56-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, made his daughters pregnant 19 times over a 25-year period of abuse.
THE VICTIMS
He was jailed for life at Sheffield Crown Court in northern England and must serve a minimum of 19 years and six months.
In court last month, the man admitted 25 rapes and four indecent assaults.
He made his elder daughter pregnant seven times, fathering two surviving children by her. He made his younger daughter pregnant 12 times. She has five surviving children.
The case bears similarities to that of Austrian Josef Fritzl, who fathered seven children with his daughter, whom he kept locked in a basement for 24 years, before being discovered in April.
After their father was sentenced, the daughters responded with a statement issued through the police.
‘His detention in prison brings us only the knowledge that he cannot physically touch us again,’ they said.
‘The suffering he caused will continue for many years and we must now concentrate our thoughts on finding the strength to rebuild our lives.’
The court heard how the man, who refused to attend the hearing, took pleasure in fathering children by his daughters and threatened to beat them if they refused to have sex with him.
Said prosecutor Nicholas Campbell: ‘All the defendant’s children spoke of his domination over their family life…All the family were frightened of him.’
The incestuous abuse began in 1981, when the girls were between eight and 10 years old. Each only realised the other was also being abused when they fell pregnant some years later, the court heard.
The man’s wife left him in the early 1990s, but the girls and their brother continued to live with him. The court heard of the various injuries suffered by both sisters throughout the years of abuse.
‘His younger daughter told of the frightening habit her father had of putting her head next to the flames of their gas fire and that when she struggled to get away on certain occasions she burnt her eyes,’ Mr Campbell said.
In one incident, the man held a knife to his eldest daughter’s throat, claiming: ‘It’s never going to end.’
Said Mr Campbell: ‘When either one of his victims tried to end the sexual abuse, he threatened to kill them and their children, and when they threatened to tell police, he said they would not be believed. He said that if they went public then the children would be taken away from them.’
The daughters spoke of his pleasure at fathering their children while at the same time they feared for the children’s welfare and how the two of them would cope, the prosecutor said.
Judge Alan Goldsack said: ‘I can say that in nearly 40 years of dealing with criminal cases and 14 as a family judge, the combination of aggravating circumstances here is the worst I have come across.
‘I have little doubt that many members of the public hearing the facts of this case will consider either you should never be released from prison or only when you are old and infirm. I agree with that view.’
The judge also said that questions would inevitably be asked about what professionals – social and medical workers – had been doing for the last 20 years.
Those questions were likely to dominate front pages in Britain, where attention has lately focused on problems with the country’s child welfare services.
The British tabloid press was already up in arms over the death of a toddler who was allowed to suffer months of excruciating abuse at the hands of caregivers despite regular visits to his home by social workers, doctors, and police.

> 15yo ACS Boy leapt to his death over CCA
A 15-YEAR-OLD jumped from the 11th-floor bedroom window of his home – in front of his mother – after a disagreement with his parents over his intention to switch his co-curricular activity (CCA) in school.
Tan Wen Yi had wanted to switch from track-and-field to drama but his parents were against it.
Up till then, no one would have thought Wen Yi as a troubled or even self-destructive sort. The Secondary 3 student of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) was described as cheerful and was well-liked by his classmates and respectful towards his teachers, the Coroner’s Court heard yesterday.
A police investigation report presented in court said that on Feb 13 this year, Wen Yi skipped track-and-field training to play football. He was caught by his track teacher and questioned.
He later complained to his classmate that he had been dealt track training sessions four times a week as punishment; he also said he was going to die, but his classmate assumed he was joking.
On their way home in the same bus, Wen Yi was cracking jokes and did not appear depressed.
Staff Sergeant Raymond Chng of the Tanglin Police Division said in his investigation report that Wen Yi’s mother received a call from the track teacher that afternoon about her son’s ditching his training for football. The teacher, Mr Ng Yeong Joo, 38, who had been told that Wen Yi wanted to switch to drama, told the teen’s mother to advise him against it.
That evening, in a talk with his parents in their Stevens Road condo home over the matter, Wen Yi said he had lost his inspiration to run and insisted on the switch.
His parents tried to talk him out of it, but he refused to listen.
He then announced that he had planned to make the switch the following month, ‘but I am going to do it now’. He headed for his bedroom, followed by his mother, who sensed something amiss. Before her eyes, he walked up to the window, opened the blinds, climbed onto the ledge, pushed the window open and jumped out. She rushed forward but was too late.
Staff Sgt Chng said that a day before, Wen Yi had sent a classmate a text message in which he said he was going to commit a crime – jump off a building as a ‘final feat of rebellion’ and let his craziness be known to the world. ‘Will you as a friend accompany me on this day?’ he had asked.
When he took up track-and- field in 2006, his attendance was irregular, but he blossomed into a medal-winner last year.
His parents were not in court yesterday. Asked why by State Counsel Lee Cheow Han, Staff Sgt Chng said the couple have gone overseas to forget what had happened. They have another child, a girl aged 10.
State Coroner Earnest Lau recorded a verdict of suicide.
> Janitor arrested for filming elementary school girls’ toilet
A man was arrested Tuesday after a video camera was found installed in the girls’ restroom of the elementary school he worked at in Hanamigawa Ward. Eichi Miyama, 36, was arrested for violating the Minor Offenses Act. He is suspected of entering the girls’ toilet and setting up the video camera some time between September and Nov 21.
According to police, Miyama said: “I like watching girls do their business…I’ve done this several times before.”
A fifth year student discovered the video camera in the bathroom on Nov 21, and informed staff. Miyama admitted to the offense when questioned by officials from the Chiba City Board of Education.
Miyama had been employed at the school since April 2006, during which time no other problems had arisen. The Chiba City Board of Education has dispatched a counselor to the school, and held a meeting for parents on the night of Nov 21.
> Daughter raped 23 times
A MAN sexually abused his teenage daughter from the time she was 13 till she was 15, going further with each successive assault on her.
He started off molesting her, his biological daughter, and then moved on to rape. The rapes began when she was 13 and took place at least once a month.
On Thursday, the 39-year-old admitted to raping her 23 times, outraging her modesty thrice and insulting her modesty by watching her as she took a shower.
His punishment: 28 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane, the maximum allowed under the law.
High Court judge Woo Bih Li, condemning him for his ‘abhorrent’ behaviour, said: ‘As her father, you should have protected her. Instead you engaged in a campaign of sexual abuse against her.’
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl, appeared downcast during sentencing.
The victim, now 16 and studying in a secondary school, is the oldest of his three children.
The court heard that her father began molesting her in late 2005, entering her room to grope her at night. The molestations went a step further each time.
The girl, then 13, was shocked and disgusted, but did not dare resist his actions and pretended to be asleep.
In March 2006, the man moved on to raping her at least once a month.
A few months later, he ordered her to use the bathroom attached to the master bedroom when she wanted to take a shower after school. He barged in during her shower and watched her.
He did this again on another occasion, and also raped her afterwards.
Eight months ago, on learning she had a boyfriend, he punished her by sending her away to her grandparents’.
Then he changed his mind about keeping her there. He took her to a hair salon to have her hair shorn short, then brought her home and raped her.
The sexual abuse came to light that month, when the girl told her boyfriend that her father had raped her.
The boy told a teacher and the matter was eventually referred to the vice-principal, who called the police.
The man was arrested the next day.
Yesterday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Jeyendran Jeyapal urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence.
Noting the girl’s youth, he said the man abused his position of authority, and that the girl has suffered psychological harm from the abuse; he also cited the number of attacks which increased in intensity as an aggravating factor.
The abuse would have continued had it not been for the girl’s boyfriend intervening, he said.
The man, in a mitigation letter, said he was a first-time offender and that his daughter and family had forgiven him.
His wife, siblings and the victim herself also submitted letters pleading for leniency because of the loss in family income. This held no sway with Justice Woo.
He said: ‘I want to stress that the plight of your family and your own plight is caused by you and you alone. No one is to blame your daughter.’
> Man blames penis iPhone gaffe on glitch
Please help! I took my husband’s i-phone and found a raunchy picture of him attached to an e-mail to a woman in his sent e-mail file (a Yahoo account). When I approached him about this (I think that he is cheating on me) he admitted that he took the picture but says that he never sent it to anyone. He claims that he went to the Genius Bar at the local Apple store and they told him that it is an i-phone glitch: that photos sometimes automatically attach themselves to an e-mail address and appear in the sent folder, even though no e-mail was ever sent. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? The future of my marriage depends on this answer!
A man who was caught by his wife sending pictures of his genitals to a lover via iPhone claimed it was caused by an Apple bug.
She was trying to find out whether her husband had a genuine excuse, even though she had already caught him making late night phone calls and sending messages to other women.
She wrote: “Please help! I took my husband’s iPhone and found a raunchy picture of him attached to an e-mail to a woman in his sent e-mail file.

Susan asked the Apple experts on the discussion board to tell her if they had ever heard of the bug, saying “the future of my marriage depends on this answer“.
Her account on the Apple site says she is from New Jersey.
Most people on the forum told her the excuse was laughable, but interestingly, two newly-registered users posted responses saying they had experienced a similar glitch.
However, regulars on the forum soon queried whether the posts came from Susan’s husband.
Susan even described the picture in question on the forum.
“It was a close-up shot of him pleasuring himself taken at the exact moment of maximum pleasure,” she wrote.
“It’s such a good shot that one must wonder if he actually practiced it a few times before getting it right.“
Susan thanked the discussion board and said her lawyer was “working on the divorce complaint”.
> Pasta jar penis man chased by police
A man has been fined after he was caught by police in his car with his penis in a pasta jar.
Keith Roy Weatherley, 46, was spotted acting suspiciously in his car by police near Nobbys Beach in Australia.
When police approached him, they suspected he might be armed, so they drew their weapons.
When he saw the officers, Weatherley pulled away and led police on a 20kph chase which lasted up to ten minutes.
When he finally stopped the vehicle, he refused to exit the car, and officers used batons and spray to remove him. They found him with a 750ml pasta jar around his penis.
While they were trying to restrain him, Weatherley continued to pleasure “himself in between bouts of wrestling”.
Police found a number of items in the car, including pornography, a home-made sex aid, women’s stockings and a Jack Russell terrier.
Weatherley pleaded guilty to offensive behaviour, resisting police and disobeying a police direction.
He said he resisted police because he was trying to make himself “decent”. He was fined £257.
> Man nabbed after hitting girlfriend with sandwich
A man faces a domestic battery charge after allegedly hitting his girlfriend with a sandwich as she was driving on Interstate 95 on Friday. Police said the 19-year-old man became angry and hit the woman in the arm and face with a sandwich, knocking her glasses off.
The victim nearly lost control of the car because she couldn’t see the road and the man then allegedly ripped off the rear-view mirror and used it to shatter the windshield.
The man was freed on $7,500 bail.
> Teacher arrested for giving 14yo boy topless photo
A former Sunday school teacher was arrested on charges of distributing harmful material to a minor after the parents of a 14-year-old boy found a topless photo of her on his cell phone. Victoria Ann Chacon, 27, also a former middle school teacher, allegedly met the boy at their church, where she was teaching Sunday school.
The boy’s parents called police March 27 after finding racy letters in which Chacon professed her love. The boy initially refused to give a statement about the relationship, the arrest warrant says.
Several months later, the parents found a cell phone with a topless photo of Chacon. The phone was owned by Chacon and the two had been calling one another, according to court documents.
The woman was arrested Tuesday. Jail records had no attorney listed for her.
Chacon resigned from Somerset Junior High School on March 14. The boy did not attend that school. Officials of the Somerset Independent School District said they found no evidence that she had any inappropriate relationships with students.
